Saint Valentine has given us today,
So for hearts, sugar and flesh, we pay,
While life and love both drain away.
Blind fools draw bows, take aim,
Golden arrows fly on course to maim,
A heart like theirs, too much the same.
And I, the fool, now and forever hence,
Upon your sweet heart make my offense,
Even if I, to you, make little sense.
For your eyes, each a full and tranquil moon,
Gleaming, beaming, streaming an invisible tune,
Are so lovely they make the heavens swoon.
And your smile, so perfectly warm and bright,
Unearthly, glowing with transcendent light,
Is so charming it can't but dispel my plight.
Still nothing compares to what inside I find,
A soul so full of joy, so pleasant and kind,
That every nuance is pressed upon my mind.
